I was 23 when a dermatologist told me that the mole we removed as a precaution came back as melanoma. As a former tanner, I should not have been surprised. However, as I was a naive young tanner, I was stunned. How could I have skin cancer? I never tanned THAT much. Yet, there I was, listening to the dermatologist schedule the appointments with an oncologist and a surgeon. Just a month later, we were told that melanoma had spread.

Now, I use my story with hopes of spreading awareness. I am determined to save other young tanners from the roller coaster that I currently live on.

Melanoma: It’s not just skin cancer.
